Il teatro dei Pupi
The ancient tradition of the puppet theatre in Palermo, has been part of the Cuticchio family’s way of life for many a generation. These highly skilled puppeteers have not only put on performances for many years but they also made their own puppets. At one time the puppet shows were like a spoken lesson of the day for the working classes but then later were followed by the middle classes too and provided work not only for puppeteers but also for many skilled craftsman who created the fabulous marionettes. A simple suit of armour would consist of 35 to 36 individual parts then assembled by hand.
