Mysterious Sicily 3 Day Tour
This three-day trek takes us to the discovery of one of the most beautiful and mysterious area of the island.
Leaving from Agriturismo San Marco, in the Alcantara valley, after crossing the river, we begin to climb through the forest reserve Malabotta, extreme eastern propensity of Nebrodi mountain range, where you can admire breathtaking views of the valley and of Etna up to about 1200 meters above sea level where we find the "patriarchs of the forest", represented by centenaries oak and beech trees of considerable size and where we stop for a picnic before continuing on and get in the Argimusco (nicknamed "the Sicilian Stonehenge"), famous for its megaliths with very suggestive forms, according to some by weathering, according to others eroded sculptures of ancient civilizations unknown by the official history. From there it goes down on the north where we arrive in the medieval town of Montalbano Elicona, where we make a tour of the old town and its castle before we go to our hotel located in the main square of the town.

After breakfast we start climbing in the eastern territory of Nebrodi mountains, crossing pastures and arable fields, woods, passing under big wind turbines and meet the so-called "tholos" small circular stone buildings used since prehistoric times by unknown civilizations and until a few years ago by local shepherds, we arrive in Floresta, the highest town in Sicily with its 1275 meters high. After a break for picnic we continue our ride and we enter inside the Nebrodi Natural Park. Going through highly suggestive paths for the beauty of the landscapes and forests of oak, maple and beech trees, we get to Monte Colla the most isolated farmhouse of the island (seven kilometers from the nearest paved road) an aristocratic home of the eighteenth century with attached barn about 1400 meters high.

After breakfast we start walking in the direction of the source of the Alcantara and then on in the direction of Santa Domenica Di Vittoria, a traditional village on the border of the park, which we cross and then we go down to the fertile valley between Etna and the mountains Nebrodi and Peloritans. We pass fields of fruit trees and vegetables and we get to Mojo Alcantara, a village famous for its "eccentric crater” that means outside the perimeter of Etna, exploded a few thousand years ago and whose lava flow has followed the course of the river that modeled it and has carved the famous gorges that have made it famous worldwide. After the picnic break we continue to follow country lanes bordered by stone walls of lava and paths that lead us to multiple crossings of the river up to the "small gorges" and the "Byzantine Cuba" place of worship by the particular squared shape dating from the seventh/eighth century AD and then return to the starting point, “Agriturismo San Marco”.
