Mt Etna Circuit


This trek is a spectacular adventure that makes us turn around the highest active volcano in Europe, through tracks, mule paths and pistes on the back of our beloved horses, who lead us through a succession of dense woods and recent lava flows to breathtaking views of the mini continent that is Sicily.


Day 1: 
Arrival at the farmhouse San Marco, dinner and overnight. 


Day 2: 
Breakfast and departure around 9:00 am for a great tour in the Alcantara river valley, among vineyards, olive groves, hazel, lava flows, and several river crossings (and possibility in the warmer months to cool off in the clear waters of the river in beautiful places) .Return  in San Marco in the late afternoon, dinner and breakfast.(hours of riding: 6)


Day 3:
Breakfast and departure for the tour of Etna in three days around 8:00. After crossing a path in the middle of a lava flow from 1911 and passed the village of Solicchiata, famous for its production of fine wines, we begin the ascent from the north, through forests of oak and chestnut will arrive after three hours to the cave "Palombe" one of the many caves of Etna formed during the efusive eruptions and arrive soon at the "high-mountain track ", at an average height of 1700 meters above sea level, which we follow to the refuge of "Spanish mountain " where is our pause picnic. In the afternoon we continue to follow the track from which in the days of good visibility, we can see half of Sicily. we passe from lava flows, craters and forests of beech, we pass the cave of  "Monte Nunziata" and we get to the refuge of  "Galvarina",  the cave of "Santa Barbara" and finally we arrive at our hotel "Villa Dorata", with breathtaking views of the city of Catania, its plain and its Gulf, until Syracuse. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4:
Breakfast and departure at around 7:30. Left our hotel, we start to climb towards the "Rifugio Sapienza", the most visited place of Etna, from where the cable car takes tourists in the points summit of the volcano and in the winter ski resort. We reach a height of about 2000 meters where we can admire the "mouth" of 2001 which spewed millions of cubic meters of lava that invested almost all the facilities and the streets of this southern side up to much lower altitudes. We pass then through the “Silvestri Craters” born during a big eruption at the end of nineteenth century, so called “bottoniera” because they follow a line of fracture like the buttons of a shirt. We descend then through very rough paths across recent and older lava flows and thick forests until the territory of Zafferana Etnea, famous for its large production of honey, and we continue to climb in the woods in the direction of Ragabo pine forest, where we'll find our accommodation, "Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi".

Day 5:
Breakfast and departure around 8:00. We start to get into the middle of the giant pine trees forest until we reach the lava of the latest of the great eruptions of Etna, the one of 2002, after which we get in the area of the impressive Sartorius craters at about 2000 meters and then in Piano Provenzano in near which is carried out the picnic, before descending to return at “Agriturismo San Marco” continuing to cross an alternation of oak and chestnut tree forests, lava flows more or less recent and hazel trees.
Dinner and overnight.

Day 6: 
Relaxing day in which participants can choose from complete rest in the farmhouse or to make a guided excursion in the morning to the great Alcantara Gorges and / or in the afternoon in Taormina, high repute town historical-cultural nicknamed the "Pearl of Sicily. " Dinner and overnight at the farmhouse

Day 7:  
Breakfast and departure at around 9:30 for another tour in the enchanting Alcantara Valley where today is carried out a tasting of Etna DOC wines in one of
the most renowned wineries in the area. Back in the farm in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.

Day 8:  
Breakfast and transfer to the airport or any other location on the island.
