This trek is a fantastic adventure that brings us to cross some of the lesser known areas of the island, from the famous town of Corleone, inland central west, to the seaside resort town of Cefalu, passing through a rich variety of landscapes, by thick forests to cultivated fields, mountains of chalk or limestone, endless fields of grain and forage, caves, seven / nineteenth century farms, towns and villages that are lost in the memory of the history ...
Our horses stay with us throughout the duration of the trail and are greeted by the same structures so guests never need to use other means of transport not even for short distances.
All meals are made from local produce from picnic lunch to dinner in farmhouse that include a minimum of four litters.
Day 1 - Corleone - Gorgo del Drago (7 hours riding)
Breakfast and departure from Corleone around 8:30, the trek begins with the crossing of endless fields planted with fodder and grain that still represents the main agricultural production of the island, considered since Roman times an immense barn. It then goes on the forest reserve Pirello and arrive after about 3 hours inside the reserve of the Ficuzza Wood, established by King Ferdinand of Bourbon in 1799 as his personal hunting ground, and with about 7,400 hectares of extension is one of the largest and best preserved natural woodlands of Sicily. Making then the picnic under the imposing Rocca Busambra, which with its 1602 meters high is the highest peak in western Sicily and continue in the afternoon through the forests of the reserve, which are home to a wide variety of indigenous plants including red oak, holm oak, ash, pine. Passage and short stop in the village of Ficuzza where our guests can admire the heighteenth-century Royal Palace of King Ferdinand, and take something from the bar.
After lunch continuation towards the farmhouse Gorgo del Drago, at the northern edge of the forest reserve. Dinner and overnight at the farmhouse.
Day 2 - Gorgo del Drago - Masseria Acque di Palermo (8 hours riding)
Breakfast and departure from Gorgo del Drago around 8:00. Passing from the village of Godrano, famous for its cheese production, we continue towards Cefala Diana famous for its castle of Arab origin, then Villafrati, Ciminna, whose territory is characterized by rock formations composed of gypsum crystals and where is taken the picnic lunch. In the afternoon we go towards Roccapalumba, nicknamed "the town of the stars" and arrival at the Masseria Acque di Palermo where we dine and spend the night.
Day 3 - Masseria Acque di Palermo - Mandragiumenta (8 hours riding)
Breakfast and departure from Masseria Acque di Palermo at around 8:30, going through the arable fields land through royal trazzere (ways instituted in the Bourbon period and still traveled by herds moving from north to south, from the coast upon entering the ground-in the seasons). We then pass under the town of Alia and we get to the caves of Gurfa, in the territory of Alia, home of the tomb of Minos, king of Crete who came to Sicily to hunt for Daedalus and then killed by the daughters of the Sican King Kokalos, then transformed into a temple in the classical era, in warehouses for grain in Roman times, in luxury home in the Arab era, in the stable until 1997 and today cultural heritage of the town of Alia. Here we make our picnic. In the afternoon we go through the trazzere to the agricultural town of Valledolmo, where we pause at the bar, and then to the farmhouse Mandragiumenta.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 - Mandragiumenta - Tenute La Rocca (6 hours riding)
Breakfast and departure from the farm around 8:30, passing through the fields towards the ancient perched on a mountain village of Sclafani Bagni, where we can visit the panoramic ruins of the medieval castle and have a coffee at the bar, before continuing the path in the direction of the thermal spring, where we make our picnic and we can immerse ourself in the bath with beneficial sulphurous waters. Picnic and continuation in the afternoon following Salito, ascended tributary of Northen Imera river, the western limit of Madonie territory.
Dinner and overnight at the farmhouse Tenute La Rocca.
Day 5 - Tenute La Rocca - Rifuggio Marini (6 hours riding)
Breakfast and departure at around 8:30. This day takes place in the heart of the Madonie Natural Park, that welcomes the largest biodiversity of the island with its 40,000 hectares (home to more species of all those in Great Britain). After leaving the farm we start climbing to arrive soon at high altitudes where the vegetation and landscapes change dramatically and through dense forests of oak and oak, and then further up of beech, on the massif of Mount Cervi and Mont Carbonara (second highest peak of Sicily with its 1979 meters). Arrive late afternoon in Rifuggio Marini, in Piano Battaglia, famous for its ski resort in winter.

Day 6 - Rifuggio Marini - Cefalù (8 hours riding)
Breakfast and departure around 8:00. This day is characterized by a considerable difference in height; We go from the altitude of 1600 meters of Piano Battaglia to the sea level of Cefalu, through areas really interesting from the botanical point of view. We come after about three hours to the medieval village of Isnello and for the time of picnic in Gibilmanna, home of the famous shrine of Our Lady spiritual destination of pilgrims from all over Sicily. We continue the descent in the afternoon and arrive in Cefalu, popular seaside resort town of international renown. After our dear friends the horses are loaded onto a truck that take them back home, our guests are escorted to the B & B La Dolce Vita. Dinner at a nearby restaurant Lo Scoglio Ubriaco based on fresh fish.
